The 2 cars portrayed from the display in the pits area at Ipswich for the 2006 BSCDA championship aren't ones that I was familiar with.
- Curtis 'Crawfish' Crider 122
Crawfish on the side of the No 21 car is a bit of a giveaway. Curtis Crider was one of the Team USA drivers who toured the UK in 1955 and became known as 'The White Ghosts'. A pioneer of NASCAR in the states being a boot legger out running the revenue before taking his souped-up Ford racing on Saturday nights. Racing as USA 122 doesn't match the 21.
Research suggests the 21 is Crider's Dodge ‘Red Ram Special’ brought over the pond for the 2004 Goodwood Festival. Jason Holden 38 - grandson of Fred Mitchell also 38 - drove the car in a Stock Car exhibition at the event in June. An excursion into a lake led to the nickname "Crawfish".
- Pete Tucker 85
In 1955 & 56 Pete Tucker raced under many numbers around the country. The 'explosive' background for the number displayed on the door panel is consistent with the style used by Pete Tucker through 1954 to -1964 when registered as no 85. Pete is the author of Stock Car Racing: The Thrill of the Century: The Early Days of Stock Day Racing.
